College Station will be the destination of several club teams from the Lone Star State this week as the city hosts the 37th edition of the Texas Shootout, one of the most traditional showcases held in the state every summer, organized by Challenge SC.
Besides being an opportunity for players to showcase their skills, the tournament held at Veteran’s Park from Saturday to Monday will also provide the many sides from the ECNL and GA leagues that will be present among the 129 entered teams with a great opportunity to finalize their preparations for the playoffs.
Prep Soccer Texas will be in attendance over the weekend, but before we get there, let’s take a look at some promising prospects who will be in action, now focusing on the midfielders:

Redington will be in the midfield for Sting Dallas Royal RL G06/05 1 this weekend in College Station – they have matches against Arkansas Rising RL, NB Ajax White and New Mexico Soccer Academy. She plays a box-to-box role for them and is very active on both sides of the ball. Redington covers space well in the center of the field and is very smart to anticipate plays and make interceptions. She’s even better in possession, showing great calm on the ball and distributing it efficiently, at times with long passes in behind the opposing backline. The midfielder also finishes well from distance.

Friday will be one of the creative forces in her Challenge SC ECNL 07 RL team that will face MS Rush United Premier, New Mexico Soccer Academy and Broomfield Soccer Club in the event. She’s very smooth on the ball and is typically a tough matchup for opposing defenders because of her quickness and her ability to improvise. Friday is at her best when playing on the left as it gives her options, such as using her dribbling to beat defenders out wide and bringing the ball inside to set teammates up with her passing. She gets into good spots inside the penalty box to finish chances and shoots very well.

Perot will be in action with DKSC ECNL RL 08 in their matches against Albion Hurricanes FC ECNL RL, Vegas United SC and Rise SC GA at the Texas Shootout. She’s a wide player who can be used in midfield or in the backline and does a very good job on both sides of the ball. Perot is very good at dribbling the ball and has excellent vision to take advantage of the space her movement generates to find her teammates with good passes. She’s very direct and confident in her play and also likes to finish from distance. Perot also does a good job on defense, playing with good energy and occupying spaces very efficiently.

Lauren Alvarez
State:
Texas
Club:
FC Dallas
Alvarez is a key piece in the FC Dallas ECNL 08 team that will compete in College Station. She makes a huge impact on the game from her central midfielder position, operating as sort of a hub for them. Alvarez is very disciplined and engaged defensively and does an excellent job in terms of stopping plays and shielding the team’s backline. She’s also very strong in possession with her ability to connect passes and dictate the team’s pace with her ball distribution. Alvarez joins the attacks when she sees a chance and can be dangerous with long-distance shots.

Navarro will appear with SA City 09 GA in this weekend’s event and will be an interesting offensive option for them against Challenge SC ECNL 10 and Challeng SC ENCL RL 09. She can play as an attacking midfielder or a wide player and is probably at her best on the wing, where her pace makes more of a difference. Navarro is very good in 1v1 situations and more often than not she manages to beat defenders off the dribble to create space for a finish or a cross. She also reads space well and can be very dangerous when passed in behind the backline. The midfielder also had good vision and helps create chances when playing more centrally.
